Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Dissociation

Treatment

Sometimes life brings us traumatic, unfortunate life events and we are victim to frightening and deeply unsettling experiences. From issues of abuse, neglect, medical trauma, early childhood trauma, community violence, and traumatic grief our brains and our bodies find ways to cope and often these ways develop into patterns of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. Sometimes we find these reactions to trauma include: nightmares, your body becomes exhausted, feeling hypervigilant and overly alert of your surroundings, your mind shuts off, blacks out or dissociates, feeling an increased need for control, feeling helpless, and irritability, among many other symptoms.

Approaching trauma in therapy with a therapist you trust can bring freedom to years of pain and suffering and greatly increase your physical and emotional health. Through years of experience working with victims of trauma and abuse, I utilize a gentle approach in combination with best practices to let these parts of us share their story when they are ready and to release the burdens they have carried for so long. Through this learning process, we can pay tribute to the sophisticated reasons why we developed these behaviors and learn new ways to integrate these parts into our lives in a healthy and fulfilling way.
